It all starts with Mooloolaba Beach: the focal point of the region and the ultimate spot to swim, surf, sunbathe, dine and shop. It’s also the home of SEA LIFE Marine Park, the region’s biggest marine life attraction.

From there, you can hop on a sunset cruise, enjoy a waterfront dining experience at The Wharf, explore Buderim Forest Park or Mooloolah River National Park, swim with sharks and whales, as well as head to famous Sunshine Coast attractions such as Aussie World, Australia Zoo, Wildlife HQ, Bellingham Maze and more – all reachable within a short drive.

Simply put, when it comes to holiday experiences, Mooloolaba doesn’t disappoint.

SURFING LESSONS

When it comes to surfing on the Sunshine Coast, Mooloolaba Beach is among the best destinations to surf as well as learn to surf. It’s well known for its local surf scene, surfing competitions and surf shops on the Esplanade. And for first-time surfers, there is no better place to hop on a board and learn from the best.

There are a handful of local surf schools offering one-on-one lessons and group surfing sessions. Some of these include Maroochy Surf School, XL Surfing Academy and North Caloundra Surf School.

No matter your ability or level, start surfing and make the most of your stay!

JET-SKI HIRE

Prefer jet-skiing to surfing? Mooloolah River and the waterways are perfect for jet-skiing and there are a number of local providers where you can hire a jet-ski and set off in no time.

For one of the best jet-ski experiences on the Sunshine Coast, head to Sunreef Mooloolaba on Parkyn Parade. Located next to The Wharf Mooloolaba, you can set off straight onto the Mooloolah River before exploring the waterways or letting loose on the Pacific Ocean.

No license is required, with all life jackets provided. Minimum age 16; ages 12 to 15 must ride with an adult.

SWIM WITH HUMPBACK WHALES

Whale watching season generally lasts from July to October and the Sunshine Coast is one of the best destinations in Queensland to see the migrating humpback whales when they pass just off the coast on the famous Humpback Highway.

During whale watching season, you will find a number of tour operators departing daily in the morning and afternoon, allowing you to witness the humpback whales up close on a 360-degree viewing boat with onboard commentary. And if you’re looking to take your experience to the next level, you can also swim with the whales.

Sunreef Mooloolaba offers the opportunity to swim with humpback whales from July to October. The experience caters to up to 15 people in one session, with all equipment (mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit) provided for. If you’re visiting during spring, whale-watching or swimming with whales is an experience that will make your holiday unforgettable.

INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING

For climbing enthusiasts and anyone looking to try bouldering for the first time, indoor rock climbing is another thrilling experience on offer.

You can find Rockit Climbing Gym and Flow Bouldering within a 15-minute drive from Mooloolaba Beach. Both climbing gyms offer indoor climbing for adults and teens. If it’s your first time, don’t worry as inductions are also included to get you started.

Rockit Climbing Gym offers both bouldering and wall climbing, while Flow Bouldering features premium bouldering across a range of walls measuring in difficulty. Always wanted to try? Why not give it a go while you’re here?

For shark lovers and adrenaline seekers, swimming with sharks is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that isn’t easily forgotten. SEA LIFE itself offers cageless Shark Dives in its Ocean Tunnel exhibit, lasting two hours, for ages 14 and over.

Another way to swim with sharks in Mooloolaba is with Adrenaline Experiences Sunshine Coast. This world-class tour operator offers a 5-hour Ocean Dive with sharks just off the coast of Mooloolaba, without cages, plus a glass-bottom boat experience to and from the secluded Mooloolaba shark reef.

We have stayed at the Aegean a couple of times now, its just been repainted on the outside and has got new balcony furniture. The ocean or marina views are great rooms to get, especially in summer as the balcony’s are in the shade from early afternoon onwards. Its a great location right in the heart of Mooloolaba with great views and easy walking distance to everything. The interior rooms are a little dated but

We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, which was a perfect size for a family with two teenagers. The location is perfect, with everything you could need within easy walking distance and great views. The apartments are clean, and the shared facilities well maintained. In particular it was great that the pool was heated warm enough that you could swim even in winter – we took advantage of it every day. The private rooftop balcony
